Dean McDermott Biography
Dean McDermott has starring roles and guest appearances in more than 30 films and 15 television productions since he started acting in 1986. He knew he would be an actor, way back when he and his three older sisters would play dress-up. "They dressed me up as a cowboy or pirate and there always was a scenario. When I got to be 8 or 10, we were bad guys moving 10 kilos of drugs in Miami. I'd get horrible dying scenes where my friend gets shot and I'd have his head in my hand and I'd be vowing revenge," he remembers.
Dean is best known for his role of Constable Turnbull in the popular television series Due South and for his role as Mark Simpson, captain of the Steelheads hockey team, in Power Play. Dean was also a recurring character in the sci-fi series Tracker, where he played Detective Vic Bruno., and starred as Agent Alan Coyle in the first season of the Lifetime series with Gloria Reuben and Caterina Scorsone.
Among Dean's guest appearances are roles in La Femme Nikita, The Outer Limits, Blue Murder, Relic Hunter and four episodes of Earth : Final Conflict as Brenton Michaels.
He received a Gemini Nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1997 for his portrayal of small town boy Garet French in "Lives of Girls and Women". His other movies include "Rookies", "Iron Eagle IV", "Bone Daddy", the 2001 remake of "Brian's Song", the TV movie "Stolen Miracle" and more recently "Picture Claire" and "Wall of Secrets" with Nicole Eggert.
He big Hollywood break came last year when Kevin Costner cast him as Doctor Barlow in "Open Range" also starring Robert Duvall and Annette Bening. More recently, you can see Dean in "Against the Ropes", starring Meg Ryan.
On a personal note, Dean was born on November 16, 1966 in Toronto, Ontario. In between acting jobs, he never hesiates to give his time to charities, including the Motion Picture Industry Charitable Alliance® and the Hollywood All-Star Celebrity Charity Hockey. He also loves to play hockey, fish and golf.
